Rock Band: Still Rocks

I haven't talked about Rock Band much lately.

My crew hasn't been playing as much lately, as we've all been kinda busy with all kinds of other stuff, but I've cranked it up a few times, and have been working on getting through the solo tour on the "hard" difficulty setting. I've finished 70 or so of the 80 or so songs that we have on the game, but the one that I'm unable to get past so far is Foreplay/Long Time by Boston. Here is a video of the song on drums (video is obviously not me). I can't get past the 00:38 second mark, or so.

I've tried it two dozen or so times, hoping that practice would make perfect, but something about the rhythm of the song is escaping me, I think.

I find that I wake up with songs stuck in my head sometimes, as happened this morning, so before heading in to work, I sat down and played Crushcrushcrush on drums, and rocked it. It's a terrifically fun song to play.

Busted Drums

So, I busted the drums on my Rock Band drum set. I noticed this, first when I started getting a funny hollow sound from one of the four pads. Later I noticed a tiny break in the gray cover of the same pad. We kept right on going, but soon saw that the tiny hole was a split in the cover. We stopped to take stock, and soon realized that I had managed to crack the plastic in two of the drum pads. !!!!!

So.. we stopped playing for the evening, even though I've started playing all the songs on "Hard"... INCLUDING mystery sets, which previously I always tackled on medium, because I was scared, but I ain't scared no more!

I am, however, concerned about being able to fix/replace my drum stuff. We discovered that the pads are removable pieces, more simply put - I don't have to replace the WHOLE drum set, to fix this, necessarily. The drum pads come off/out of the set. I have yet to carefully research to see if we can buy/replace individual pads. I can't have been the first person to beat the hell out of the thing, but I'm anxious about how to go about fixing it. And then keeping it from quickly happening again.

But uh, rock band fucking rocks :)

Roundup

I've managed to catch a couple of movies recently - this weekend I saw In Bruges, which I though was very good. Previously, I caught Idiocracy, which I highly recommend.

This past weekend saw Dixie and the Ninjas, our Rock Band band, pick up our instruments again, after a few weeks of hiatus, and do some jamming.

Also this weekend, I saw Carol Plunk, and it was a FANTASTIC show! I went with pretty minimal expectations and was kinda blown away. Yay local talent! Here she is covering Sweet Child of Mine:





She also did a cover of Black Sabbath's Paranoid that totally rocked my socks, and she did a bunch of her own material that rocked as well.

My Sharona

I broke a drumstick last night playing My Sharona.... on Rock Band.

Also, Rock Band rocks.

We got it for post-christmas and have been having a blast with it. I started on guitar, because I cannot sing, but Krissi sure as hell can... I had a ball with guitar on medium, and started dabbling with guitar on hard, but as it turns out, its... well.. hard. I've also been working on the drums some, and have gotten relatively proficient with them. I can handle them on medium, and have started trying hard on a few songs that I'm familiar with, but the double bass kick is going to be tough to get the hang of. Also, my wrist hurts. From the drumming.

Need to get more songs into the rotation of it.
